Obama Shrugged
The proliferator-n-chief of the straw man argument has been at it again, floating the notion that Republicans are some how hypocritical in their attacks on his untimely and ineffective response to the oil disaster in the Gulf. Without a hint of regard for fact, he has, over the past week, repeatedly and pompously mischaracterized Conservative ideology by declaring, "Some of the same folks who have been hollering and saying 'do something' are the same folks who, just two or three months ago, were suggesting that government needs to stop doing so much."
Really?
Does he honestly think we're that stupid—unable to distinguish between his administration's unprecedented usurpation of our quasi-free market system, and the proper and customary role of government in the face of a catastrophic environmental disaster of national scope?
Perhaps he just doesn't understand?
In the ass-backwards, Bizarro world of BO, it's apparently okay for government to insinuate itself into the automobile, financial, and energy industries, but murkier when it comes to government discerning its proper role in relation to a calamity that poses a monumental national threat.
There is no hypocrisy in the Conservative critique, only ignorance in Obama's comprehension of the role of government. It is perfectly rational to be against unsustainable spending and il-advised intrusions into the marketplace, while also being for a muscular governmental response to an event with such potential socioeconomic consequence.
Conservatives understand that the fundamental purpose of our government is to provide for the safety of the citizenry; to maintain public order; and to protect our natural resources and way of life. Those are all things for which the government is uniquely qualified.
Now, if we could only determine for what this president is uniquely qualified.
Who is Barack Obama...and where the hell is John Galt?

Are you ready to come to Galt's Gulch with Frank & me? We'll probably need an IT guru to set up the satellite phones...

You'll need divine intervention, not an IT guru, for Frank's technology needs.

The thing that interested me about this post is the notion of what "qualified" to be president actually means. I bet if you really scrutinized the criteria of the President's job description (assuming you could find one) I suspect that no one really would have the proven, real world experience across all areas required to lead the country ... and here's my qualifier, regardless of any circumstances that could possibly arise during that president’s term in office. You might get lucky and have things go on during your presidency that your skills align to, but in this case, HUGE mismatch in skills required at the current time and the current occupier of the office.
The bottom line, in the US a majority (51% or more) of the citizens fall in love with and elect an image that is created by the party campaign of what kind of leader they think they want or need at that given period of time. That image is usually based on a negative reaction to events that have occurred over the previous four years of the previous administration. This is Obama’s problem. Obama was hired to be the inspirational “Yes we Can” president. The one who would wrench the country successfully back out of the greedy hands of the war mongers and oil tycoons. The problem is that we no longer need the shiny image of the “Yes We Can” leader because what we really need is a brass tacks operational “No You Don’t” COO type of president like Ross Perot, Lou Gerstner or Jack Welch to fix this disaster we’ve gotten ourselves into along three fronts 1) a paralyzed economy; 2) a massive oil spill; 3) Afghanistan. All three are operational nightmares that require a specific set of leadership skills and Obama doesn’t ‘have them. The thing that makes it really bad is neither does his cabinet because he created a cabinet in his own image and has a slew of idealistic liberals that can’t run a global business that is hemorrhaging. So the Great “Inspirationalist” while sounding good at the time to ‘Dems’ that couldn’t stand one more minute of George W, got the pretty presidential image they created on the campaign trail and now we have a president who is unqualified for the job and we have to live with it.

You've nailed it! Very thoughtful.
I would only add that Obama's presidency makes the case unequivocally for the long, drawn out vetting process that one must go through to become president. Unfortunately, in Obama's case, he went through the long and drawn out process, but he wasn't vetted. The media's bias and love affair with the idea of Obama and the potentially transformational nature of his election caused them to ignore their responsibility. Now, we're all paying the price.
