Proposition K
San Francisco has a proposal on the ballot to decriminalize prostitution. Whaddya know, the City by the Bay may actually have something right. There are long-standing, well-know arguments on both sides. The bottom line for me is that consenting adults, underpinned by reasonable health and safety regulations, should be able to make this decision for themselves. I am sensitive to arguments about how this might contribute to a general cultural decline, and how such a decline can ultimately lead to societal disintegration, but I would counter-argue that taking this activity out of the shadows and regulating it sensibly, actually lessens its coarsness, as well as its in-your-face aspects.

I believe that you are missing one key point.....By legalizing prostitution, you will open the door to many married or committed men (and some women) who refrain from this activity solely because of their fear of "getting caught" and being exposed (no pun intended). And this would/could create health issues, family issues, moral issues, etc. I would hope that one's moral values would drive their decision about philandering, but I fear that this is not true in many cases.
