Obamanomics I

Let me see if I have this right.  Obama has said in numerous interviews over the past weeks and months that he would likely postpone implementation of his tax package if the economy remained weak and government revenue receipts were down.  So, the plan that he promulgates as stimulative to the economy and much fairer to the middle class can't be enacted because it will do further damage to an already weak economy?  Doesn't anybody in the mainstream media see the abject contradiction in this?  Isn't he tacitly admitting that the package is not pro growth?  If it's such a boon for the middle class—the engine of our economy—why wouldn't he rush to have it enacted, rather than wait for better economic times?
